Recently, a precious friend stepped down from a leadership position in a ministry where I serve. When she messaged me to let me know, she wanted to make sure our friendship remained intact. The first thing that came to my mind were the lyrics to Michael W. Smith’s “Friends are Friends Forever,” circa 1987.
And friends are friends forever
If the Lord’s the Lord of them
And a friend will not say “Never”
Cause the welcome will not end
Though it’s hard to let you go
In the Father’s hands we know
That a lifetime’s not too long
To live as friends
I totally wrote that out in so many letters in the 90’s. Moving, graduations, extended goodbyes—friends are friends forever and L.Y.L.A.S. (Love You Like a Sis for all you young ones).
As we wrap up two years of meeting here on Fridays, I want to grab my hairbrush and sing this friendship anthem to you. I appreciate each one of you that took the time to write a post and link it here. Fridays became one of those days when writing didn’t feel quite so lonely.
Even though we won’t be linking up around here on Fridays, I do hope I keep finding your words showing up all around. One of the reasons #FridayFive began was to make sure our little writing community kept writing. So keep writing, my friend. Writing prompts wait for you in the natural rhythms of your day. Soak in the moments, and write about them.Soak in the moments, and write about them. #amwriting #FridayFiveClick To Tweet
Instead of singing to you (which would surely cause you to smile politely and sneak out the back), I want to share the highlights from our #FridayFive adventures.

5 Wives Share the Secret to Love that Lasts
I am so pleased this one made the top of the list because it was a community effort. My dear writing friends shared their best marriage advice with me and my readers. It’s really lovely and I hope you will head over and visit them here.
My Five Goals for the New Year
The first year of blogging, I shared progress toward my big New Year’s goals each month. I scaled back in 2016 with this post. I narrowed my focus to five areas of hope for the new year. (I scaled back even more in 2017 with a personal manifesto. This post sparked some good conversation, too.)
5 Ways to Show a Stranger the Love of God
The prompt for this post was “five ways to express love.” About this time, I finished reading Anne of Green Gables. This quote inspired me to write the post: “[Anne] knew and cared nothing about God’s love, since she had never had it translated to her through the medium of human love” (Lucy Maud Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables).
5 Favorite (Free) Films for Family Movie Night
Every Friday night is Pizza Movie Night at our house. I shared some of our favorite family movies in this post. A year later, I can add a few more to this list: The BFG (Netflix), Pete’s Dragon (Netflix), and Until Forever (Pureflix).
For the Love of Five
How fitting that one of the top five #FridayFives is from my post-For the Love launch team days! The friends I made during that time period are some of my closest friends today. These are the ladies who put the pencil back in my hand when I’m ready to quit writing. They account for most of the links on every #FridayFive. I think it goes without saying, “A lifetime’s not too long to live as friends.”
