There is a lot of pressure for excellent gift-giving on Mother’s Day. How do you adequately wrap up your love and gratitude? You want to “rise and call her blessed,” but a Hallmark card and potted plant seem to fall short. Never fear! I have a Mother’s Day gift guide for the Proverbs 31 woman in your life!
An excellent wife who can find?
She is far more precious than jewels (10).
She is more precious than jewels, but jewelry can make her feel precious. How about this necklace with meaning from The Vintage Pearl? The words, “be love(d),” hand-stamped on this sterling silver charm have three meanings: Be love (to others), Be loved (by God and people), Beloved (your new name in Christ). This project is a give-back, meaning 50% of each necklace sold will go directly to Austin Angels, a non-profit organization that supports foster kids and parents.
The heart of her husband trusts in her,
and he will have no lack of gain
She does him good, and not harm,
all the days of her life (11-12).
Demonstrate your appreciation for the mother of your children by taking her out on a date. The Date Night link up will give you some great ideas to get you started.
She seeks wool and flax,
and works with willing hands (13).
It’s not wool and flax, but these Milk and Honey tees would make a great gift for the hard-working woman in your life. Milk and Honey is also a give-back company, dedicating $2 from every t-shirt sold to an organization helping people in need.
She is like the ships of the merchant;
she brings her food from afar (14).
These delightful cookies from Telah’s Cozy Cookies ship from my hometown of Grant, AL. That’s kind of afar, right? Telah’s cookies are not only beautifully frosted, they are delicious. Order by May 2 for delivery by Mother’s Day. Check out Telah’s Instagram; she is an artist with icing!
She rises while it is yet night
and provides food for her household
and portions for her maidens (15).
Meal planning can be one of the most time-consuming, hair-pulling, tear-producing tasks for moms. Take the work out of meal planning with eMeals*. I have used eMeals for years and cannot imagine doing life without it. The website/app provide recipes and a shopping list every week based on the meal plan you select. Bonus: my family loves the food!
She considers a field and buys it;
with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard (16).
Grab this garden stone from DaySpring*. It says, “The blessing of family is life’s greatest joy, filling our home with laughter and love.” A beautiful sentiment for any mother or grandmother.
She dresses herself with strength
and makes her arms strong (17).
I am a huge fan of the work Fashion and Compassion does for women. Their mission: connecting communities with beauty and dignity . This braided cuff bracelet is made by fair-trade artisans in India. It symbolizes strength for both the artisan and the mom who receives it. This purchase helps break the cycle of poverty through economic empowerment & education.
She perceives that her merchandise is profitable.
Her lamp does not go out at night.
She puts her hands to the distaff,
and her hands hold the spindle (18-19).
Mom’s work is never done. There is always one more load of laundry, one more dish to wash, and one more body to bathe. Give mom the day or night off. Hire a professional house cleaning service to give the house a good spring cleaning. Or take on the morning or night time routine so she can put her feet up or get some extra sleep.
She opens her hand to the poor
and reaches out her hands to the needy (20).
She is not afraid of snow for her household,
for all her household are clothed in scarlet.
She makes bed coverings for herself;
her clothing is fine linen and purple (21-22).
Give the Proverbs 31 woman in your life a way to communicate God’s love when decorating her home. This indoor/outdoor pillow from DaySpring* will brighten any corner with the words of Ecclesiastes 3:11, “He makes all things beautiful.”
Her husband is known in the gates
when he sits among the elders of the land (23).
Take a day off work to give mom a day off. Send her off for a girls weekend, a mani/pedi, whatever she loves to do but never gets to do. Meanwhile, you can handle all of her responsibilities!
She makes linen garments and sells them;
she delivers sashes to the merchant.
Strength and dignity are her clothing,
and she laughs at the time to come (24-25).
The Sparrow Studio is another give-back company which provides training and support for 35 women in Kigali, Rwanda (read more here). This darling Beauty from Ashes Apron is made of Rwandan fabric and will be the perfect kitchen accessory for the special mom in your life.
She opens her mouth with wisdom,
and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue (26).
Seth and Amber Haines put together The Mother Letters: Sharing the Laughter, Joy, Struggles, and Hope*, a beautiful book of letters from mothers near and far. This is a treasure of wisdom, humorous musings, and “me, too” moments that any mom would read again and again.
She looks well to the ways of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness (27).
Home is where your mom is. What a touching endearment to read every morning on this whimsical, over-sized mug. This cutie from DaySpring* would go well with a box of K-cups or Starbucks Via Vanilla Latte* (my favorite).
Her children rise up and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
“Many women have done excellently,
but you surpass them all” (28-29).
Nothing takes the place of handwritten sentiments. Help your children make cards for mom and grandma. Maybe a big poster with word cloud of all the things you love about her. It is a simple but heartfelt expression of love and gratitude.
Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain,
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
The Word of God is the source of the Proverbs 31 life. If mom likes to draw or journal, consider a journaling Bible*. I use mine to record my responses when I read. Others love to worship through art. It is a great way to encourage engagement with God’s Word. (Kadi Dawn Stunz has some crazy-good color pencil skills! Thanks for sharing, Kadi!)
Give her of the fruit of her hands,
and let her works praise her in the gates (30-31).
No mater what you decide to do for the Proverbs 31 woman in your life, make it from the heart. Take a few minutes today to consider what she loves, what she values, and what she needs. The gifts you give her, big and small, will help her feel appreciated and valued!
